Product and quality
Our Manuka Honey comes exclusively from the remote wilderness of New Zealand. We work directly with experienced beekeeper partners and process the honey in our own BRCGS A certified facility. From harvest to bottling, everything stays in our hands.
MGO stands for Methylglyoxal - the bioactive compound that makes Manuka Honey special. The higher the MGO rating, the more concentrated and potent the honey. Our US range runs from MGO 80 for everyday use up to MGO 830 for the highest standards. Every rating is confirmed by an independent lab certificate.
UMF stands for Unique Manuka Factor, New Zealand's strictest grading standard. MGO measures one compound. UMF certifies four, including leptosperin, the marker that only appears in real Manuka. Cosana is a licensed UMF brand (License No. 3178), and every jar shows both ratings so you can compare.
Manuka Honey can only be produced in New Zealand, where the Manuka bush grows. The flowering season is short and the harvest limited. On top of that, our thorough quality assurance (including independent lab testing of every batch) adds to the care that goes into each jar.
We own our Manuka Honey bottling facility in Taupo, New Zealand, so every step from filtering to sealing happens under one roof before the honey ships. It carries nine independent certifications across food safety (BRCGS A, ISO 9001, FDA), NZ origin and authenticity (FernMark, NZ MPI, UMF), and dietary standards (Non-GMO, HALAL, Kosher). We control the quality; independent parties verify it.
Store Manuka Honey in a cool, dry place away from direct light - a kitchen cupboard works well. Direct sunlight and heat can change the honey's properties. Always close the jar tightly after opening. In the fridge, honey can crystallize - that's normal and not a quality issue. If it does, warm it briefly in a water bath, without bringing it to a boil.
